Researcher in generative AI

¡Hola!
This is Patricia A. Apellániz. Nice to meet you!

I currently work as a Researcher in the Signal Processing Applications Group (GAPS) at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM).

I have always been naturally curious and full of questions, and I genuinely enjoy learning new things. That is probably what brought me here: doing research at university.

Back in 2016, during my Telecommunications Engineering Bachelor’s degree at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), I came across something called machine learning in one of my classes. Since then, I have kept asking questions and learning about this fascinating field and its many applications.

That curiosity eventually led me to defend my PhD thesis at UPM in April 2025, titled “Deep Generative Models for Survival Analysis and Synthetic Data Generation in Healthcare”, supervised by Professor Juan Parras Moral.

Today

And here I am — still researching, still learning, and still trying to better understand a world that keeps evolving and that, I believe, has enormous potential to improve our lives.
